Thank you all for your support of your Yr 10 child and the English & Literacy Area for the recent GCSE English Literature Unit 1 exam on Wed 11.1.23. The attendance and behaviour of the pupils for their first GCSE exam was pleasing from the vast majority of the year group.
As an Area, we have now moved on to working towards completing the rest of the GCSE English Literature course. Pupils are currently working on the preparation for their final NEA piece, on comparison of poetry by Welsh writers. They will then move on to studying two new set texts for their Unit 2 exam: An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley and Heroes by Robert Cormier.
Key Dates:
Tues 31.1.23 P1 & 2 Poetry NEA session 1 including 30 mins revision beforehand
Tues 7.2.23 P1 & 2 Poetry NEA session2 including 30 mins revision beforehand
Fri 17.2.23 All NEA work completed, including catch up sessions
Thur 9.3.23 Unit 1 exam results. Given out in Tutorial/English lessons
Wed 17.5.23 Unit 1 external exam resit – Higher/Foundation Tiers. All pupils
Wed 24.5.23 Unit 2 external exam – Higher/Foundation Tiers. All pupils
All pupils will resit their Unit 1 exam in May 2023, in order to maximise marks. The higher of the two attempts will be used for grading by the WJEC.
Final decisions about pupils’ tiers for the GCSE exams in May will be made following the results of Unit 1 on 9.3.23. Only pupils with a C+ grade from Jan 2023 and/or a C+ grade for the overall NEA pieces will be entered for Higher Tier. It is possible to get a C grade on both Foundation and Higher Tier papers.
