Dear Parent/Guardian, 18th January 2023
Thank you for your support of your Yr 11 child in English over the last term. Almost all pupils have now completed both of their NEA oracy tasks, worth 20% of their final GCSE English Literature grade. Catch up sessions are being run on an individual basis until the end of the half term – Friday 17th February. No pupil will be able to complete their oracy NEAs after this point. If your child has not yet done either the Individually Researched Presentation or their Group Discussion on fast fashion, they will be contacted by me in the next week or two.
Sets have been rearranged for the final time this year, enabling each group to focus solely on exam performance, based on results from the most recent PPE in November 2022. Each group is a target group, rather than a traditional set, with a focus on an exam performance within a certain range of marks, rather than grades.
We have a final full PPE [mock exam] to pinpoint areas for improvement in your child’s exam performance:
Friday 3rd Feb: 8:30-10:30 – Unit 2
Friday 3rd March: 8:30-10:30 – Unit 3
There are lots of resources available on each English Google Classroom. Please encourage your child to revise at home, so we can accurately gauge what needs to be our focus in class for the last few weeks before their external exam.
Finally, the external exam dates for their GCSE English Language exams are:
Monday 5th June. AM – Unit 2
Monday 12th June. AM – Unit 3
Please contact me if you have any questions or queries on LTaylor@cathays.cardiff.sch.uk.
Thank you for your continued support of your child and us as an Area.
