All School Policies

Policies Last updated: 09/03/2022

There are many school policies. Extracts from certain policies are detailed below.

The written material on policies is, however, bulky and we do not send out copies to parents.

Whilst it is not possible to include all the information that the school could give to parents on this website, it is not only our legal responsibility but also our desire to make such documentation easily available to you.

Therefore parents are invited to view policy documents at the school should they so wish.

Available Policies include:

-Schemes of Work for all subjects

-Examination Syllabi

-The school’s latest inspection report

-The school’s action plan based on that report

-The school’s annual development plan

-The school’s full Complaints Policy Policy documents relating to the school curriculum

-Equal Opportunities Policy (including our race & disability equality policies)

-SEN policy

-Anti-bullying policy.

-Powers and duties of the Governing Body.

To meet the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 the school has produced a Publication Scheme setting out the classes of information published, the manner in which the information is published and whether the information is available free of charge or on payment. Requests for copies of the scheme or any documents covered by the scheme should be made to the head teacher.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2005, requests for information not included in the Publication Scheme should be in writing, stating enquirer’s name and correspondence address and providing a description of the information required.
If this information is available in the school, and does not breach either the Data Protection Act 1998 or the Environmental Information Regulation 1992, it will be provided within 20 working days excluding school holidays. A charge may be made for more information.
Because we are committed to Opportunities for All it is our school policy that if a student follows an examination course and meets the minimum requirements for entry, then they should have the right to take the terminal examination. This fair and open policy will mean that the ‘percentage’ outcomes might be lower than in some other schools which select students to sit examinations. All parents will receive a copy of our examination results.
It is provided through both the National Curriculum Science course and through our Personal and Social Education programme. The material used is carefully scrutinized and our teaching staff are trained so that sensitive issues are dealt with inside a moral framework. We also call on the services of community professionals. We recognize that our policy and strategies are meant to complement and not supplant the responsibility of the parents to deal with such matters. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from the sex education topics within the PSE programme. Currently no parents exercise this right.
Religious education is a statutory requirement and is taught to all pupils following guidelines laid down by the LEA. Our collective worship is of a broadly Christian nature but we are conscious of being a multi faith school, therefore we choose topics that enable students from all faiths to feel comfortable in celebrating their own beliefs. In every act of worship there is time to reflect or pray on the issue covered. Periodically, assemblies are taken by members of various religious communities after consultation with senior staff. On occasions pupils of the Islamic faith request a room for prayer, especially during Ramadan. This request is always granted. As with sex education, parents have a right to withdraw their child from these activities. Currently, no parents exercise this right.
Parents should be aware that schools have a responsibility to ensure the well-being of all pupils. This responsibility means that the school: Has a child protection policy and procedures May require their child to be referred to the statutory child welfare agencies Will endeavor to work with parents and remain impartial if their child is being, or has been referred Will help parents understand that a referral is in the interests of the child and that the school will be involved in the child protection enquiry or police investigation in relation to children’s educational progress; and Will keep the parents informed of the educational progress of the child. Where the school has a concern about a child, they will, in general seek to discuss these with the family and, where possible, seek their agreement to making referrals to social services. However, this should only be done where such a discussion and agreement will not place a child at increased risk of significant harm. That advice will be provided by the local social services department in consultation, where appropriate, the police. The designated individual at the school will clarify with these statutory agencies, when, how and by whom, the parents will be told about any referrals. They will also seek advice as to whether or not the child should be informed of the process. Click to download the schools official Child Protection Document.
The school has installed computers and Internet access to help our learning. All pupils must undertake to follow the following rules which will keep everyone safe and help us to be fair to others. • I will ask permission from a member of staff before using the Internet; • I will use only my own login and password, which I will keep secret; • I will not access other people’s files; • I will use the computers only for school work and homework; • I will not bring removable media into school unless I have permission; • I will only e-mail people I know, or my teacher has approved; • The messages I send will be polite and sensible; • I will not give my home address or phone number, or arrange to meet someone, unless my parent, carer or teacher has given permission; • To help protect other pupils and myself, I will tell a teacher if I see anything I am unhappy with or I receive messages I do not like; • I understand that the school may check my computer files and may monitor the Internet sites I visit.
