Dear parents,
The Cardiff Council traffic team have installed a camera over the zebra crossing outside of the main pupil entrance on Crown Way. The camera will identify, and support the issuing of fines, to anyone who stops on the Zig Zag lines, including in the middle of the road, unless they are letting people cross the road. Therefore, if you stop there to let children out of your car you are likely to get a fine. This is not within the control of the school though we welcome it as a means to keep children, staff and members of the public safe as they enter and leave school. You will, I am sure, recall my earlier messages over concerns for our children’s safety. If you are dropping children off for school could I suggest that you either use Maindy car park as a dropping off and turnaround area, or you stop further down Crown Way by Maindy Barracks/ Companies House where there is less congestion and other children are not crossing the road.
I, and one of our Governors who is a local councillor, have been in discussions with Maindy Leisure Centre owners, GLL, to extend the waiting time at the end of the day from 20 to 40 minutes. They have contracted out the enforcement of parking rules there to a company called Gemini and GLL are liaising with Gemini to change the terms of the contract to allow for longer waiting times. I will update you further on this when we have news. I have also expressed our extreme disappointment and dissatisfaction with fines handed out to parents for being minimally over the wait time before half-term and Gemini’s refusal to waive those fines. I hope we will receive some more welcome news on these issues soon.
