Dear Parent /Guardian,
The School Nursing Immunisation Team will be visiting your child’s school on 01/03/2022 to administer the second dose of the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine. There is no need to fill in a new consent form for this.
The vaccine helps protect a person from being infected by the Human Papillomavirus. This virus increases the risk of developing some cancers later in life, such as cervical cancer, some mouth and throat cancers and some cancers of the genital area. The HPV vaccine does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections.
The vaccine will be offered to all pupils in year 9 and 10 who have received their first vaccination.
Girls in year 11 and above who have not had their second doses will also be offered the vaccine.
You must inform us on the contact details below if any of the following apply:
- If your child has received their second dose of the HPV vaccine at the GP practice or another health setting.
- If your child has received their first vaccination at the GP practice or another health setting and you would like your child to receive the second dose in school as we will need to obtain your consent for this.
If your child has not had the first dose of the HPV vaccine and you would now like them to receive the vaccine, we will be visiting the school to offer first doses later in the programme when you will be given the opportunity to consent. Year 8 pupils will also be offered the first dose of the HPV course at this time.
