Dear parent/ guardian
I am writing to let you know that we will be running our annual emergency lockdown drill at 9.30am on Wednesday 1st October. This is where we run through the actions and procedures, we would take in the event of a real-life emergency requiring us to lockdown the school to keep pupils, staff, and visitors as safe as possible.
We will be informing pupils during assemblies this week, running through the required steps and expected behaviour for the drill and then providing reminders of the drill during form tutorials ahead of 1st October. This will be the third time we have run through the drill and pupil behaviour, and engagement has always been excellent in the lead-up to, and during, the drill itself. To date, we have not had any pupils experience any distress about carrying out the drill, however, if you are concerned that your child may become distressed or notice signs of distress, before or after the drill, then please let your child’s head of year know and we will provide support for them in-school.
Carrying out an annual emergency lockdown drill is a statutory requirement for the school and is like the termly fire drills that we run. In the event of a real-life emergency lockdown, we would send a text message to parents to let them know, however, for the purposes of the drill we will not be sending that message on 1st October to avoid any confusion or unnecessary worry for parents. The lockdown drill will last approximately 10 minutes, and we will aim to keep disruption to the school day at a minimum.
