As part of our Health and Wellbeing programme of study, we often use facilities that are off-site, but in the local area of Cathays High School. This is to enhance the sporting experiences of our pupils and to provide variety to their learning.
The main facilities that we use throughout the year are the Cardiff University Sports Training Village at Talybont, Heath Park playing fields and the National Indoor Athletics Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Travel to and from Heath Park is on a privately hired bus but once we are at the venue, we share the field with the general public. Pupils are expected to maintain high standards of behaviour at all times.
Pupils are walked to and from Talybont with the PE staff along North Road, using the pedestrian crossing. All pupils are expected to walk sensibly and to follow the instructions of the PE staff at all times.
NIAC is used in the summer at the annual sports day and once again, members of the public will also be using the facility. Pupils are expected to make the most of the amazing facilities on offer but to maintain high standards of behaviour at all times.
The admission pack, that parents complete before their child starts at the school, contains information about the use of off-site sports facilities and you would have signed a general consent form allowing your children to be taken to these facilities as a part of their timetabled curriculum. I was keen to highlight these to you though ahead of us starting to travel to these venues for Year 7 PE lessons.
Thank you in ensuring that your child understands these expectations. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.
