P.E Letter to Parents – January 2022

January 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We had a hugely successful autumn term as a PE department last term including, a wide variety of Out of Hours School Learning opportunities available throughout each week. This involved over 12 different sports and activities and over 30 clubs on offer in total. We also completed over 60 competitive fixtures / tournaments as well. Please promote your child to attend as many of these as possible; timetables are provided as a hard copy at the beginning of each half term and are readily available from the Calcella.

I just wanted to remind parents / guardians that Physical Education kit is essential and must be brought for all PE and Games lessons. Cathays High PE kit can be purchased from YC Sports on Crwys Road. If students do not bring their PE kit they will receive a behaviour point for not bringing appropriate equipment and will receive a break or lunch time reflection. If they do not bring their kit a second time, they will receive an after school reflection and a phone call home. If students do not bring their PE kit a third time, they will spend a day in our behaviour support base. If students cannot take part in a lesson due to injury or illness, a letter must be provided to the teacher at the beginning of the lesson, written and signed by their parent / guardian.

Games lessons for boys will continue to be at Heath Park and therefore their Games kit (long sleeved top, shorts, football socks and football boots with studs or blades and NOT Astroturf trainers) is required. PE lessons for boys will take place onsite at Cathays and therefore their PE kit (polo shirt, shorts and trainers) is required.

Games and PE lessons for girls will take place at Tal Y Bont Sports Centre which is a short walk from the school. Some lessons will be inside and some lessons will be outside on the 3G pitch. Normal PE kit is required for all lessons (polo shirt OR t shirt, skorts OR leggings OR shorts OR leggings AND trainers). Students will change on site at Cathays and then walk to the external facility for their lesson and will then walk back to school to change. It is vital students bring a coat so they are warm enough when walking to and from their lesson. Students are also welcome to wear an extra layer if the lesson is going to be outside e.g. long sleeved under layer top etc.

Students must always come to school in their normal school uniform and then change prior to their PE lesson.

If you have any further questions or would like to discuss any of the information above, please email djay@cathays.cardiff.sch.uk

Yours sincerely,

Mr D Jay
