English Lessons – Letter to parents (01/04/2022)

March 31st 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am writing on behalf of the English & Literacy Area to express our serious concerns about the poor attendance of your child to English lessons. Your child is regularly absent or arrives so late to school in the mornings that they frequently miss English lessons which are often P1 and 2. As a result they are failing to make progress and have fallen behind their peers who have good attendance and punctuality. This will not give your child the results they need to move on successfully to the next stage of their lives.

As we approach the GCSE English Language exams on May 18th & June 10th, it is more vital than ever that all pupils attend all lessons in order to be fully prepared for these exams.

We are doing our best as an Area of Learning to help your child fulfil their potential in GCSE English Language – this can only happen if they are in English lessons, completing work and receiving feedback on how to achieve their highest grade in the exams.

Please can you support us and ensure your child attends school every day, arriving on time and ready to learn with basic equipment.

Thank you for your support. Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss this further: Ltaylor@cathays.cardiff.sch.uk

Yours faithfully,

L.M.Taylor
