Calculators letter

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Next year, your child will be sitting their GCSE Numeracy (if they are in year 10) or GCSE Mathematics exams (if they are in year 11). To be awarded with this GCSE, your child will need to sit a non-calculator and a calculator exam in the summer term.

In order to support your child prepare for these exams throughout the year, your child must purchase a scientific calculator and bring it along to every Mathematics lesson from September. There are differences in the way different scientific calculators work. It is therefore important that your child is able to practice using their own calculator and develop an understanding of how it works throughout the year.

Below are some examples of where pupils can purchase scientific calculators from. We recommend pupils purchase CASIO calculators because they tend to have slightly better functionality compared to other scientific calculators. You can purchase calculators from Amazon or supermarkets.

Amazon calculator

Asda calculator

Tesco calculator

It will be compulsory for all Key Stage 4 pupils to bring scientific calculators to their lessons from Wednesday 4th September.

Please speak to myself or your child’s form tutor if you have any questions/concerns regarding purchasing a scientific calculator for your child. We would be more than happy to support as much as we can.

Kind regards,

Miss I Dunne
