Dear Parent/Guardian,
I am writing on behalf of your Yr 10 child’s English teacher as well as myself as Raising Standards Leader: English & Literacy to make you aware of our serious concerns about your child’s attendance at and punctuality to English lessons this year.
While your child’s overall attendance to school may be satisfactory, as English staff, we are concerned that s/he is missing a significant amount of valuable learning time through erratic attendance and lateness to lessons – in some cases missing whole double lessons by arriving in school at Tutorial/Breaktimes.
As all Yr 10 students are sitting their whole GCSE English Literature qualification this year in May, it is vital that your son/daughter attends all lessons. Each lesson or part of a lesson missed, means essential information and content is lost. Obviously this will impact your child’s chances of success in the exams significantly. While we appreciate that pupils can and do study at home before their exams, it is no substitute for first hand, in person teaching.
At present there is a strong probability that your child’s final GCSE English Literature result in summer 2023 will be lower than than they are capable of achieving, due to missing teaching & learning time.
Please support us by ensuring that your child is in school on time, by 8:30am, every day.
Please contact me via email on LTaylor@cathays.cardiff.sch.uk for any questions of queries.
Thank you for your cooperation,
L.M. Taylor (Mrs)
