Dear parents/ guardians
I am writing to let you know that during lunchtime there was a serious road traffic accident on the corner of New Zealand Rd and North Rd. The accident did not involve a member of the school community. However, the aftermath of the accident was visible from certain areas of the school and some older students out at lunchtime witnessed the result of the accident. Where we are aware of some students experiencing shock and upset we are contacting parents this afternoon to collect them or to have a conversation. However, we may not be aware of all of the young people experiencing trauma from either witnessing it or hearing about it from others.
Please be mindful therefore that your child may talk to you about their thoughts and feelings regarding the incident tonight. Please do let us know tonight (via email) or tomorrow morning if you have concerns about your child. We have a school-based counsellor and other colleagues trained to support young people who may be feeling distress and will want to work in partnership with you to support them.
South Wales Police are still at the incident and will be releasing updates via their social media channels over the coming hours. Therefore, it would not be appropriate for me to go into any further details about the incident at this stage.
