Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have been made aware of recent social media activity encouraging pupils to take part in inter-school violence next week. As a precaution, the school are working closely with all secondary schools in Cardiff, the Local Education Authority and the Police to ensure that preventative measures are in place. South Wales Police are monitoring and investigating the social media messaging as they potentially break the law around inciting violence.
Please be advised that this social media activity is not just happening in Cardiff, it is a national trend across the UK. It is also important to note that there have been no reported incidents of violence in relation to these social media posts in other cities where they have been posted.
If your child is anxious about attending school, please reassure them that steps are being taken to ensure their safety, and for the school day to take place as normal. All children should attend school as normal next week.
We would advise parents to actively discourage their children from taking part and remind them of the consequences if they do so, including Police action, the school’s Positive Relationships Policy and Welsh Government Guidance around exclusions which cover a students’ journeys to and from school.
It is also important that parents monitor their child’s mobile phone use and especially in relation to social media usage. Please discourage them from reposting any such messages or from commenting on them.
We are grateful for your help and support over this matter. Should you have any information, questions, or queries then please let us know via the usual means of communication.
Yours faithfully,
Stuart Davies(Headteacher)
