Dear parents,
I am writing to you today to share some devastating news for the Cathays High School community. Miss Marsha Webb, a PE teacher at our school for almost 24 years, has passed away this morning following a short battle with illness. Unfortunately, we have been aware of the likelihood of this tragic news for a few weeks but it has still come as a terrible shock to her colleagues and friends in the school.
We are planning to let pupils know in a special briefing on Monday morning during lesson 1. However, we are aware that a number of students were very close to Miss Webb and therefore, if you would prefer to let your child(ren) know at home over the weekend when you are there to support them, then you are very welcome to do so. Also, should you feel that your child will be too upset to hear the news from us in school then you are welcome to keep them off school for Monday too. As parents you are best-placed to make that judgement about your child’s reactions. We have been making arrangements for well-being support to be in place during next week to provide emotional support for our young people. Please do contact the Inclusion and Well-being leaders and/ or heads of year for your child if you know they will need to access that support. Children and staff will also be able to refer young people for that support during the course of the week too.
As a result of this terrible news, there may need to be changes made to the date of the planned Inset Day on Monday 11th July. In order to allow colleagues to attend the funeral we may need to move the date. We do not have dates or details of that yet and will keep you up-to-date as soon as possible. I thank you in advance for your understanding of any necessary changes to the date of the Inset Day in advance.
Yours faithfully
Stuart Davies
